Avoiding identity Theft
You can avoid identify theft by obtaining regular credit reports on your personal credit history. This is one of the best proactive measures you can take, as these reports will provide you with information on all of your currently active accounts. A credit report will also tell you if anyone has inquired about your credit history. Most importantly, it will let you know if any new accounts have been opened or were attempted to be opened. To accurately check your credit history, you must contact the three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. You should check all three agencies because some institutions only report to one or two of these agencies. Consequently, each agency may have different information.

Devices that turn any standard tape recorder into a telephone tape recorder
Many private investigators can easily record telephone conversations. Devices that turn any standard tape recorder into a telephone tape recorder are readily available. Plugged into telephone jacks, these devices begin recording as soon as the telephone headset is picked up, then stop recording when the headset is placed back on the hook. These devices are helpful for a private investigator who wants to record his own telephone conversations. Such a device can also be placed discreetly on the phone jack of the person being investigated to record his or her phone conversations.

Management of records
The Sarbanes Oxley Act affects the management of records in three main ways. Anyone attempting the destruction or falsification of records, or caught trying to obstruct an investigation, will face fines and imprisonment. In addition, companies must follow set communication guidelines regarding recordings, audits, and other records. Although the Sarbanes Oxley Act was intended to protect investors and prevent large companies from engaging in fraudulent activities, it has unintentionally put some burdens on smaller companies and made it harder for them to progress. You can and should do criminal background checks on all of your personal in high positions.

An increasing number of attorneys are specializing in specific fields
Attorneys engaged in the general practice of law handle various types of legal issues. An increasing number of attorneys are specializing in specific fields of law. Criminal attorneys, for example, specialize in representing clients charged with a crime. Civil attorneys handle non-criminal cases, such as property damage, personal injury, or breach of contract. Some California attorneys in civil practice also handle divorces. Others draft legal documents such as deeds, contracts, and wills. Corporate attorneys provide business counsel and advise companies on legal questions and security transactions. Attorneys can also practice law in other specialized fields such as bankruptcy, environmental law, maritime law, patent/intellectual property, international law, and taxation law.

Paying your lawyer hourly or by quote
If you wish to pay your lawyer an hourly rate, it's wise to ask him or her to quote you a maximum fee. Unless the attorney has agreed to accept your case for what you can afford to pay, this is a good way to find out how reasonable your prospective attorney's retainer fee is. If an attorney quotes you a $500 retainer fee, for example, but refuses to quote a maximum fee, it might be best to go elsewhere. While cases vary in complexity, often making it difficult for an attorney to quote a maximum fee, anticipated complexities should be reflected in the retainer fee. A $500 retainer usually indicates that the attorney views the case as simple. You may ask an attorney for a lower hourly rate, but you are likely to be turned down. Good attorneys usually have more work than they have time.
